Vanessa Carpano-Chauvin has practiced law for over 25 years in Paris and Amsterdam, professionally thriving in a global multicultural innovative companies with a focus on the healthcare sector. Over the years she has worked in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device enterprises, in the capacity of senior legal management roles where she excels the most due to her passion for developing talent and mentoring diverse teams. Carpano-Chauvin joined global medical device company Align Technology in February 2016 as EMEA regional counsel, and in December 2017 she was promoted to general counsel EMEA where she has built a multicultural team of ten lawyers covering 40 countries. It is clear that she feels utmost passion for the industry she operates in: ‘I am lucky to work in a company that has created a new treatment option in the field of orthodontics with clear aligner therapy and digital treatment planning that have helped transform the life of more than six million patients worldwide’, she says. Prior to this she served as a general counsel for the speciality medicines Europe division of Teva Pharmaceuticals Europe in Paris and Amsterdam and beforehand as a legal director Europe for Cephalon from 2009 to 2013 (when Cephalon was acquired by Teva). She joined Beaufour-Ipsen, now Ipsen, at its global headquarters in Paris in 2000, where she worked until 2008 in multiple global positions, with her last role as director international commercial affairs, with three direct reports. ‘Working at Ipsen was a tremendous experience in a fantastic fast-growing biopharmaceutical company, covering all activities starting from R&D, BD, manufacturing, sales and marketing of multiple pharmaceutical products on a very broad geographical scope’, explains Carpano-Chauvin. Her specialities include digital health and technology, business ethics and compliance and fostering effective collaboration and teamwork by leading with integrity. Carpano-Chauvin is an active member of the international group of the general counsel Netherlands network, founded by Petra van Hilst and Michiel van Straaten, and is an alumni of the second cohort of the General Counsel Executive Program created by the same founders.
