About

Serving as Greenpeace International’s chief legal officer and the head of the legal unit for the last 15 years, Jasper Teulings is responsible for advising on all legal aspects of campaigning with a strong focus on freedom of expression and international ethical legal regulation. A large part of Tuelings role also involves providing strategic legal advice to Greenpeace International’s senior management team, as well as representing Greenpeace International in international meetings and NGO committees. In 2017, Teulings was notably involved in talks regarding an international tribunal formed under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea ruling Russia to pay the Netherlands €5.4m in damages over the 2013 seizing of Greenpeace’s vessel and its crew following the protest against GazpromNeft’s Prirazlomnoye drilling in the eastern Barents Sea. Teulings was at the forefront of discussions of this climate-related lawsuit, contributing to the favourable outcome. Prior to joining Greenpeace Teulings accumulated over ten years’ experience within private practice, specialising in media law.
