Cristiane Rego is responsible for the legal area at Braskem Netherlands as well as that of Braskem Europe. Initially joining the Brazilian arm of Braskem in 2013, Rego joined in the capacity of legal affairs manager, consulting and litigation, with a focus on civil law, commercial and environmental law. In 2017 she was became responsible for the legal area at Braskem Netherlands and Europe. ‘The opportunity to work at Braskem in Europe, has added a lot to my profile since I have the opportunity to work with people of different nationalities, different cultures and new ways of working’, explains Rego. This experience has added a lot to her legal work, especially the need to know different legislations and, ‘the art of harmonising legislation’, in order to generate the best result for the company. During her time at Braskem she has worked on a variety of different areas with the legal department including legal support to the commercial department in different businesses, regulatory issues, competition, law projects, corporate matters and strategic litigation as well as the management of relevant discussion of tax and social security issues. As well as encouraging greater integration between legal departments around the world to support business more efficiently in Europe, Rego has supported the internalisation of Braskem and for global initiatives such as a specialised compliance program and the global contract system. She has also been recently involved in a governance initiative called Program@Braskem Europe, a governance programme responsible for re-aligning several intercompany relationships based on the best practices of governance.
