Career Biography
General Counsel, Group Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary of Lenzing AG, a global market leader in wood-based cellulose fibres, with revenues of approximately €2.6 billion in 2025.
As General Counsel, he is responsible for the Group’s legal function, comprising 21 FTEs globally, including 11 lawyers, three patent attorneys and support staff. His remit covers financing transactions, corporate law matters across all jurisdictions in which Lenzing operates production facilities (Austria, Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, the UK and the USA), M&A transactions, administrative law, the negotiation of major transactions and commercial contracts, and the continuous enhancement of the Group’s contract management system.
He also oversees the Group’s trade mark portfolio, comprising more than 8,000 registrations across 196 countries, as well as the patent team, including support for the development of the Group’s new ingredient brand architecture.
Recent transactions include a €545 million credit facility and a subsequent €500 million exchange offer for hybrid bonds in 2025, a US$650 million green bond combined with a US$350 million credit facility in 2024, and a €400 million rights offering by Lenzing AG in 2023.
He served as lead negotiator for the formation of a joint venture in Brazil with Dexco S.A. (formerly Duratex) for the greenfield construction of a dissolving wood pulp plant valued at approximately US$1.2 billion, as well as the associated financing agreements with the IFC and IDB, including several waiver negotiations. He also led negotiations for all major EPC packages. As an active board member of the joint venture, he remains involved in its governance and management. In addition, he negotiated and executed EPC contracts relating to a US$400 million brownfield lyocell production line project in Thailand.
As Group Compliance Officer, he is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the Group-wide Compliance Management System, including insider information and ad hoc disclosures under the Market Abuse Regulation. He has led the introduction of global policies covering antitrust, anti-bribery and corruption, whistleblowing, KYC and anti-money laundering procedures, dawn raid preparedness and corporate governance.
In his role as Corporate Secretary, he facilitates engagement between the majority shareholder, B&C Industrieholding GmbH, and the Management Board through regular meetings, Supervisory Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting. He is also a member of the ESG Committee and participates in weekly meetings of the Board of Management.
Previously, as Global Head of M&A and Strategy, he worked closely with the Management Board to develop the Group’s strategic programme, Core TEN 2015. He was responsible for strategic projects from both a financial and business perspective, including strategic supply agreements, due diligence exercises, portfolio disposals involving approximately eight companies and business units, and the co-leadership of the Group’s 18-month cost-saving and corporate reorganisation programme in 2014.
Prior to joining Lenzing, he worked at Linklaters, where he specialised in capital markets and corporate law, with particular expertise in SEC-registered and unregistered equity and debt offerings under US and German law.
