What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

Initially we have been engaged to bring the DS Smith compliance program in line with the US requirements while the company has been undergoing major structural changes, and as of January when the Spin-Off has been announced we are preparing the company to operate a standalone US/EU focused compliance program.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

The key is clear leadership and alignment on goals. This produces clear action items that can be managed in order or priority.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?

The key focus must be AI, and in particular AI agents. This technology will shape not only businesses like ours but also those of our clients. As a result, it raises a number of legal and ethical issues that must be addressed in real time, often in the absence of a fully developed legal and regulatory framework.
