Focus on… 

At QBE, we are driven by our purpose of enabling a more resilient future – helping those around us build strength and embrace change to their advantage.  This is both customer-facing and within our Global Legal Team.  I am passionate about building internal talent and promoting the opportunity for the legal team and our stakeholders to embrace change and seek to innovate and use emerging technology wherever possible.  

An example of this in practice is the legal team’s drive to promote simplification and equip our stakeholders with the knowledge and confidence to “self-serve” where possible.  We have recently implemented new processes whereby we innovate, educate, empower, and support.  By establishing new procedures, providing quality education and a robust framework ensuring compliance at all times, our stakeholders have a streamlined, service excellence experience upon engaging with legal.  We aim to be enablers rather than blockers, which is crucial in an ever-changing technology environment.  Relationships and trust are key to the success of these processes.  

There is a delicate balance between moving quickly to take advantage of reaping the benefits of emerging technology and mitigating and minimising risk.  Our suppliers’ ever-increasing use of AI is where we see one of the greatest opportunities and challenges.  An example is the delicate balance of utilising innovative technology whilst maintaining integrity, regulatory compliance, and ethical use of data to make decisions involving personal information.
