The New Zealand multinational dairy co-operative owned by approximately 10,000 farmers, Fonterra Group is the largest exporter of dairy products in the world and a global leader in dairy science and innovation. The legal team at the core of the company is headed by previous GC Powerlist inclusion Andrew Cordner, who since joining the Group in 2007, has consolidated his knowledge of both the dairy industry and the company through several different roles. Utilising Cordner’s strong understanding of the sector, the team plays a vital role in Fonterra’s strategic initiatives having previously supported a $533m NZD acquisition of a near 20 percent stake in China’s Beingmate Baby and Child Food. As China is a crucial market for Fonterra, the deal has been highly significant to its long-term business development. In 2017, Beingmate Baby and Child Food Company gained an approval from its board to purchase the co-operative’s Darnum plant in Australia, an important milestone in the companies’ global partnership. Other outstanding lawyers within Fonterra’s legal team include, among others, general counsel for global consumer and foodservice Luke Facer and general counsel for group functions and farm source Jackie Floyd.
