Aerolíneas Argentinas is the largest airline in Argentina and is also the country’s flag carrier. It has been run by the Argentine government since late 2008, when the country regained control of the airline after it was taken over from Spanish owners, Iberia Airlines and Grupo Marsans. The airline’s legal team is managed by the manager of legal and regulatory affairs, María Laura Elliff, a lawyer with more than 20 years’ experience in business law and an expert on M&A deals, joint ventures and the privatisation of state companies. The team assists all department of the organisation, particularly having an impact in regulatory and financial areas, and brings its expansive skillset in advising on the airline’s numerous commercial projects.

Most recently, Alitalia and Aerolíneas Argentinas announced a joint venture which will allow both airlines to coordinate commercial efforts to expand their service offerings, and provide business and leisure travellers with wider and better travel choices. The team assisted on the company entering into a code-share agreement in 2017 and has been behind the company’s recent success in reaching a greater number of destinations, truly enabling the business to make the most of its growth opportunities in the market.
