Shell is one of the world’s leading global energy companies, with approximately 93,000 employees and operates in more than 70 countries. Based in the city of Buenos Aires, it has been operating in Argentina since 1914, with main activities including the exploration and production of oil and gas, the refining of crude oil, the commercialisation of fuels and lubricants. Heading the legal department of Shell Argentina, Juan Lafitte manages complex legal issues for the company, and is praised by a nominator for being ‘a great corporate lawyer with business and commercial vision’. The nominating source also praises him for developing ‘an incredible capacity to reconcile the high standards of the company with the local and regional legal challenges’. Lafitte joined Shell in 2012 as legal counsel and was promoted to head of legal in July 2018. He started his in-house career by working for YPF, an Argentine oil and gas giant. Previously he had obtained a decade of legal experience in private practice.
