A lawyer specialising in federal and state tax planning and audits, Joaquin Kersman is the tax director for Latin America at adidas, the German sports manufacturer. He joined adidas in September 2015, and since then ‘has been involved in a wide variety of legal and tax issues that have given him a broad and deep knowledge of the region’, as one nominator states. Prior to assuming his current role at adidas, Kersman obtained vast experience in private practice. He was the head tax partner of the tax and foreign trade department at Nicholson y Cano, where Kersman states he ‘started and developed a strong practice’. He had also been a partner at Baker & McKenzie Argentina for more than 10 years and co-headed the tax and foreign trade department, leading a team that handled the tax needs and challenges in Argentina for clients. Kersman later became the founding partner of KGMlaw, a tax boutique focused on Argentina and Latin American tax topics. ‘All these experiences were key to my career and professional background before joining adidas’, Kersman comments. He is praised by one nominator for having ‘an impressive knowledge that he also shares with the academic field as a visiting professor at several universities’. Kersman holds a JD from the University of Buenos Aires School of Law, an LLM in law and economics from University Torcuato Di Tella, as well as a diploma in arbitration and international commercial law, granted by University of Vienna School of Law. He is also a member of the Argentine Association of Tax Studies and the Buenos Aires Bar Association.
