Mariana Eppenstein serves as legal affairs director for Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru at Monsanto, a multinational agrochemical and agricultural company that helps farmers to improve their harvests and use resources more effectively. Recognised for her skills in intellectual property, commercial property and international law, Eppenstein has been key negotiator with the government to promote Monsanto’s technology and products in Argentina. In 2016, Eppenstein was at the heart of the negotiations between Monsanto and the Argentinean government that resulted in the signing of a final accord on soybean seed royalty payments. As a result, the company gave full control to the Argentine Seed Institute to oversee the detection of crops grown illicitly from its Intacta genetically modified soybean seeds. Prior to assuming the legal affairs director position at Monsanto in 2011, Eppenstein served as a deputy legal director for Monsanto Latin America South and as an assistant general counsel for Monsanto’s vegetables business segment. Before joining Monsanto, Eppenstein worked at the law firms at Allende & Brea and Brons & Salas.
