Multinational conglomerate DuPont’s operations in Argentina are spread across Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Santa Fe and involve several different aspects of the global business including polymer production engineering, industrial biosciences plant and crop protection offices. Ensuring these activities are legally compliant whilst facilitating business growth, Juan Manuel Vaquer is both associate general counsel for Argentina and president of the wider Latin America region. A long tenured and dedicated in-house counsel, Vaquer first joined DuPont Argentina as a lawyer in 1990 and has worked in many different territories for the company, serving in positions across Europe and Latin America including senior positions in Switzerland and Chile. Reliable, knowledgeable and a trusted leader, Vaquer became vice president of legal for Latin America in 2003 and in 2008 was named president of DuPont for Southern Cone (covering Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay). Vaquer assumed his current role in October 2015, marking his 25th year with the company. Blending his duties as president and associate general counsel, truly highlights the nature of the in-house lawyer role today – no decision can be made without considering the implications from both a legal and commercial stance. In addition to his impressive career at DuPont, Vaquer holds positions in several industry bodies and committees, including serving as the current president of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States in Argentina, a member of the Board of CEADS (Council of Argentine Entrepreneurs for Sustainable Development), a member of the Executive Committee of IDEA (Institute for Business Development of Argentina) and vice president of AACCLA (Association of Chambers of Commerce of the United States to Latin America).
