Shell, the multinational oil and gas giant, has ambitious plans for Argentina, recently announcing a target to invest $300m a year in the country through to 2020 in exploration, refining, distribution, sales and marketing. The Anglo-Dutch company’s assets in the country include the Cruz de Lorena oil block and Vaca Muerta shale deposit in Patagonia, which boasts the second largest reserves of shale gas worldwide. A driving force behind Shell’s expansion efforts in Argentina has been Fabian Braghieri, a lawyer with two decades of expertise in commercial law. Serving as head of the legal department at the company since mid-2016, and prior to that as senior legal counsel and litigation managing counsel, Braghieri has been invaluable to Shell with his advice on exploitation concessions, joint ventures and joint operation agreements, as well as his provision of commercial and regulatory advice in corporate and contractual matters. In addition, Braghieri has impressed with his vision of identifying and managing litigation across Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in developing and implementing a litigation strategy on a wide variety of matters. Prior to joining Shell in 2001, Braghieri worked at the law firms Palacios Bacque & Pochat, Sidersa and Arneg Raffo.
