Woolworths has been an institution in the South African retail market since the 1930’s, and has a large market share within South Africa as part of its global footprint. The legal team in South Africa is responsible for all of Woolworth’s markets within Africa and covers all aspects of company operations including the retail stores, real estate, supply chain, logistics, IT, marketing, finance, corporate affairs and HR. This diverse responsibility is handled deftly by a highly experienced legal team of over ten members with specialist talent in legal strategy and risk implementation. The team is also involved in internal legal training for the firm, preparation of legal documentation, M&A activities, and litigation management. After a period of restructuring, Woolworths appointed a new head of legal in July 2018, Anton Manshon, a highly experienced and financially-minded general counsel, who will ensure the team continues to provide excellent service.
