Keystone Bank

About

Keystone Bank was established in Nigeria in 2011 after taking over the assets, including subsidiaries and liabilities, of the now defunct BankPHB. It currently operates 184 branches located across the country as well as two international subsidiaries. Michael Agamah, the commercial bank’s general counsel and company secretary, has headed the legal team for the company since its inception. In achieving re-instatement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) after it banned Keystone Bank and eight other banks from operating in the country’s foreign exchange market, Keystone Bank’s legal team worked closely with internal management and other legal teams to resolve the issue swiftly by collectively negotiating an acceptable plan to repay all outstanding dollars.

With Nigeria’s Central Bank recently recommending that the country’s institutions work towards embedding biometric data onto bank cards, the legal team is expertly placed to managing deals related to the potential change. With its parent company, Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), having begun its divestment of shareholding in in the bank, the legal team will be kept occupied by playing an important role in any future sale.
