The 10 lawyer team at leading Egyptian integrated energy company Elsewedy Electric is responsible for handling the legal affairs of around 50 companies. A particular focus of the team’s activities in recent months has been handling the rising number of Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) contracts and megaprojects Elsewedy Electric has been involved in, both within Egypt and abroad.

The team has overseen some of the most important deals in the company’s history, including a multi-million dollar, fast-track emergency power plant project in Egypt that saw a number of facilities being planned, commissioned, constructed and connected to the grid in just six months. The team also worked as part of a consortium with Siemens on a multi-billion EPC contract to build the world’s biggest gas-fired combined-cycle power plant complex, based in Egypt.

The team has implemented a series of measures to handle megaprojects, including a liability cap and rigorous-risk control framework. Like many companies in Egypt, Elsewedy Electric has been affected by a foreign currency shortage. The team has worked hard to ensure that business operations are not affected and that the company continues to act in compliance with both Egyptian corporate governance and stock exchange rules.
