Focus on legal career and future trends

I was admitted to practice law in Chile in 2009 after working four years in the banking and financing team of the local law firm Carey y Cía. I studied an LLM at the University of Navarra in Spain, considered one of the best universities in the country.

In August 2013, I became the in-house legal counsel of AME Holding, and I assumed the role of legal director in 2019. In May this year, I became the legal director of AME’s most relevant affiliate, HIF Global.

My principal responsibility is to advise all the entities under the control of AME Group on several commercial and legal matters, including the development, financing, construction, strategy and legal risk analysis of energy and infrastructure projects, including new projects to produce low carbon fuels base in the use of renewable energy sources. I am also responsible for coordinating our internal legal team and other teams inside the company with external legal counsel and several counterparties regarding more complex transactions.

My practice has been focused on the drafting, structuring and negotiating several types of contracts and agreements, including preparatory agreements, long-term leases, usufructs and easements related to energy and infrastructure projects; arrangements for the sale and purchase of energy, green hydrogen, eFuels and EPC contracts. Other responsibilities include corporate restructuring and project financing, commercial and corporate law, corporate governance, regulatory issues and negotiation with stakeholders.

I genuinely believe that the legal profession can and should be a key element in the battle against global warming. As counsel and advisers of relevant companies engaged in this magnificent task, we need to transform ourselves and our teams into solutions providers rather than problem raisers. If we work as a team in the pursuit of decarbonisation, I am sure it will be possible. We are still in time to make a difference. It depends on us. We cannot waste more time.
