First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently (cases, transactions, projects)?

Recently, we have been involved in several projects. We have worked in the GDPR and KVKK implementation, establishing a new digital contract database system which focuses more on delivering legal trainings (especially on KVKK). Additionally, we have engaged in ethics and compliance contracts negotiations.

Which recent political, economic, or regulatory changes have impacted the company and the team the most?

The pandemic has had impact all over the world; however, in Turky we have also been faced with the devaluation of the Turkish Lira that continues to have repercussions. The two major issues have triggered high inflation, making it harder for companies to secure products and services at previously budgeted costs. The legal team has had a crucial role in renegotiating contract pricing and exit terms. Additionally, in order to prevent further risks, our legal function has started to closely monitor economic developments and deliver support accordingly.

How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?

Good in-house lawyers obviously have professional proficiency but building strong relationship with business partners makes the real difference. That is not only applicable in our industry, but it is essential in every setting. After my sustained experience and career, I can firmly state that building strong relationships not only brings career success, but it helps to create a more harmonious environment that increases results and improves the overall quality and motivation. It enables parties to be more empathetic and trust each other when making decisions.
