Peter Amrhein
General counsel and chief compliance officer | KV Capital
Career Biography
Peter Amrhein is general counsel and chief compliance officer at KV Capital, where he leads legal, compliance, governance, and enterprise risk functions across the firm’s real estate, debt, and private equity platforms. His role combines executive leadership with practical legal counsel, supporting KV Capital’s growth while developing the institutional infrastructure needed to manage risk. He advises business units on long-term strategic initiatives, designs corresponding compliance and governance frameworks, and works closely with deal teams to structure transactions with an appropriate risk profile.
Peter joined KV Capital as general counsel in April 2022. In August 2025, he was promoted to the position of chief compliance officer, broadening his executive responsibilities within the organisation. This combination places him at the intersection of legal judgment, investment activity, and organisational strategy.
Before joining KV Capital, Peter was senior legal counsel at Wawanesa Insurance from June 2021 to April 2022. That in-house role expanded his experience advising a substantial operating organisation and managing legal issues from the client’s perspective. It also provided a bridge between his years in private practice and his current role, sharpening his ability to translate legal analysis into practical recommendations for business leaders.
Peter began his legal career at Bennett Jones LLP in Edmonton. He joined the firm as a student-at-law in 2015 and became an associate in 2016, remaining with the firm until June 2021. At Bennett Jones, he advised clients on large and complex mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance issues, and financing matters. That transactional foundation continues to shape his approach: combining technical legal knowledge with commercial judgment to help decision-makers evaluate opportunities, allocate risk, and execute transactions effectively.
Peter earned his Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University after completing an honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Alberta. He has also contributed to Edmonton’s business and cultural communities through board service with the Young ACG Edmonton Chapter and the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival. He currently is an active participant in the Compliance Committee for the Canadian Alternative Mortgage Lenders Association. Across private practice, in-house counsel, and executive leadership, his career reflects a consistent focus on enabling sound business decisions through thoughtful transaction structuring, disciplined governance, and proportionate risk management.
