Career Biography

I have over 30 years’ experience as a lawyer, the majority spent in Japan (and the vast majority in Asia-Pacific). I have covered a broad range of practice areas, including structured products and derivatives, investment banking, funds, commercial contracts, employment law, corporate governance, regulatory and compliance issues and TMT, with extensive exposure to the financial services industry in Asia-Pacific. I have managed several teams of lawyers and compliance professionals in the region and have served on various management committees/boards throughout my career. I am a qualified solicitor in England/Wales (1994) and Hong Kong (1997). From 2019, I have served as managing director and head of Japan legal at Barclays Japan. Before that, I was head of legal, Asia-Pacific at Bloomberg L.P, Hong Kong from 2014. I also served as head of legal and compliance, Asia-Pacific at Cantor Fitzgerald/BGC Partners, Hong Kong from 2013 to 2014. I previously was director of the legal department at Barclays Japan from 2000 to 2012 and VP, legal department at Credit Suisse Japan from 1998 to 2000. I worked in private practice at Freshfields Solicitors (London, Tokyo and Hong Kong), as a trainee and then a solicitor from 1992 to 1998.
