The approach is purely preventative and business-enabling. In an industry such as meat processing, which is highly regulated, export-oriented, and exposed to health, environmental, and reputational risks, we manage risk through three pillars:

– Comprehensive risk management (legal + compliance).

– Standardization and efficiency.

How has the role of General Counsel evolved in recent years, and where do you see GCs creating the most value today?

The role has evolved from a technical legal profile to that of a strategic business partner. Today, it involves participation in corporate strategy, managing complex risks, and leading areas such as compliance and corporate governance.

The greatest value is generated through contingency planning, structuring complex business deals, and supporting the Board of Directors.

How has AI changed the legal function recently (including in the past year), and how are you approaching it within your team?

Artificial intelligence has improved operational efficiency and knowledge management. It is used for task automation, document management, and compliance support, always maintaining a prudent approach because of confidentiality and professional responsibility.

What regulatory or risk trends are having the greatest impact on your role at present?

They highlight the increased demands for international compliance, transparency and beneficial ownership, reputational risks, and digitalisation. This requires constant integration of the legal department with the business.
