What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in? 

The most significant transaction we completed in the legal department in 2025 was the closing of an M&A operation, which was the acquisition of Novo Atacarejo by GMAT. In this process, we had to extract the operation in the states of PE, AL, and PB through a dropdown followed by an investment in Novo. We carried out this operation without any interruption in the operation of the stores.

What new pressures are you facing from the business as expectations for legal to act as a strategic partner continue to grow?

The biggest challenge, especially during more economically challenging periods, is maintaining an adequate budget without sacrificing the quality of internal and external service delivery.

How is your organisation adapting to the rapid evolution of data protection, AI governance and cybersecurity requirements in Brazil?

We are testing artificial intelligence capabilities in pilot projects to understand what we can best extract from the tools without compromising the technical quality of our deliverables.

 What strategies has your legal team adopted to manage disputes and mitigate risks in Brazil’s dynamic business environment?

We are taking preventative measures and working together with the affected areas to avoid legal action, especially labor and consumer disputes (which are more common in retail).
