What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The team has provided valuable support to the business in several large and strategic important vendor and partnership agreements, which is supporting Tryg’s strategic direction. In addition, the team has supported major commercial projects, including large-scale initiatives within the IT organisation, as well as technology collaborations and data-driven initiatives, including AI governance and innovation across the Nordic business. The team has also advised on significant EU regulatory implementation matters, including DORA and other digital resilience and data-related frameworks impacting the insurance sector.

What factors influence your team’s decision to use external legal services versus handling matters in-house, and what criteria are used to evaluate their performance?

We handle matters in-house, where proximity to the business and deep operational understanding create the greatest value, such as strategic partnerships and distribution agreements, AI- related initiatives, GDPR, marketing and consumer law and insurance-related legal advice etc. External legal services are typically engaged for matters outside our core business areas or where specialised expertise og additional capacity is required. When evaluating external legal advisers, key performance criteria include strong legal expertise, personal and collaborative skills, availability and responsiveness, business-minded and solution-oriented as well as commitment to diversity and inclusion.

How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company? Can you share an example of a recent legal-led initiative that had a significant impact?

Tryg Group Legal is a key enabler of the business in achieving its strategic objectives. We pride ourselves on delivering commercially focused and business-minded legal support working closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and develop pragmatic, solution-oriented approaches within applicable regulatory frameworks and internal governance standards. The legal team provides clear and actionable advice that supports well-founded decision-making, ensuring the strategic initiatives are implemented on a sound legal basis.

A recent example includes Legal’s involvement in supporting a large-scale Nordic IT transformation alongside strategic AI-related initiatives, where the team established governance frameworks and contractual structures enabling innovation while ensuring regulatory compliance and consistent implementation across markets.

What are some of the biggest legal or regulatory challenges currently facing your industry, and how is your team preparing to address them?

The regulatory landscape is changing very fast, particularly driven by increased and more complex regulation from the EU; especially in relation to IT-security (DORA), AI (AI Act), Solvency II and sustainability (CSRD, CSDDD). We prepare ourselves by closely monitoring the future regulation, and by affecting the regulatory processes through our industry association Forsikring og Pension.
