Career Biography
Matt is currently Chief Legal Officer at global content producer Fremantle, leading a team of over 100 based in more than 20 countries. Fremantle produces over 12,000 hours of original programming every year across drama, film, entertainment and documentaries, including movies such as the recently Oscar nominated Bugonia, shows like Got Talent and The Apprentice and documentary series like All or Nothing. He joined Fremantle in August 2021, and sits on the global board. Outside of Legal, Risk and Compliance, Matt also has responsibility for AI & Tech and Sustainability. Prior to Fremantle, Matt and family were based in Amsterdam where Matt was General Counsel for EMEA & APAC at Uber, where he led a diverse, international team helping Uber Rides to scale, launch Uber Eats and JUMP bikes (now Lime) and stabilise and grow the business across over 50 countries, culminating in a successful listing on the NYSE in 2019.  Matt started his career with four years at Baker & McKenzie, followed by an overall six-year stint in senior roles for global telco Telefónica with a spell at The Arsenal Football Club in the middle. Matt helps to lead a variety of social mobility initiatives, is part of the team who founded the General Counsel Wellbeing Network and is a non-executive director and trustee for leading performing arts institution, ArtsEd. He also coaches his middle daughter’s u13 football team! Matt studied Economics and Politics and is a practicing Solicitor (England and Wales).
