What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

I advised on and supported the execution of a loan portfolio sale between BAC El Salvador and BAC Panamá (over US$30mn) to optimise capital allocation across the region.

Also, I led legal execution of the merger between affiliated companies Sistemas Internacionales (parent) and Viajes Credomatic (subsidiary), including the shareholders’ meeting, merger deed, and post-merger filings.

General counsel often speak of the need to be strategic to reach the pinnacle of the profession. What does being strategic mean to you?

Being strategic means looking around, understanding the context and advised based on that information. As a General Counsel, you need to anticipate possible outcomes and provide not only your opinion but how you would address a specific situation.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?

Yes, the most important trends in El Salvador and United States that we keep an eye on are: (i) digital assets and (ii) artificial intelligence. In the digital assets space, we followed the approval process of the Genius Act and are monitoring the discussions around Clarity Act.

We believe digital assets (tokenised financial instruments, stablecoins and decentralised finance) will play an important role in the foreseeable future. With respect to artificial intelligence, it has the potential to impact every industry in the economy. Legal services will certainly be affected, so we are watching closely all developments.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?

I’m passionate about meritocracy and equal opportunity. In our legal department, we provide opportunities fairly and do not discriminate or show preference based on anything other than excellence, teamwork, and passion.
