Attorney at law with broad experience in Business Law, Corporate and Litigation, and compliance; with master’s degree in international business law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, a master´s degree in Legal Argumentation, LLM from Northwestern University, a MBA and a General Management degree, both from IE Business School and a Oil & Gas Management degree from Thunderbird School.

Currently I am performing as Legal & HR Director in which I manage to identify all operation factors in order to provide legal counseling in all business units with full compliance and enforcement of all policies and better practices in accordance to laws and protocols.
In this role I handle legal matters from corporate structures, due diligence, compliance, inter-government relationships, litigation procedures in criminal, labor affairs trails, commercial and civil law.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

Fortunately, Pan American Silver’s legal team is robust and highly resilient. Therefore, when a significant issue arises, it is crucial that we first establish the clear facts and subsequently determine the possible scenarios and their potential impact on the company, its shareholders, and/or its stakeholders. This approach enables the creation of a legal strategy for containment, mitigation, and, where applicable, remediation, always within the framework of ethics and compliance with current legislation. Mexico is currently undergoing numerous legislative changes. Consequently, the aforementioned exercise must be constant to address the variations that emerge rapidly.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

Sustainability in mining is a critically important matter for the viability and continuity of our operations. Given that the areas where we operate are typically remote, part of our commitment to nearby communities is to provide training and employment within our operations, and also to generate new business schemes that can serve as a long-term economic base. The legal department acts as a driver and promoter to ensure that the schemes proposed to the communities are sustainable, enduring, and, critically, environmentally friendly.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment ?

As part of my responsibilities as Legal & HR Director, we are constantly promoting gender equity and the inclusion of minority groups through partnerships with social organisations dedicated to this goal. Specifically within the Pan American Silver legal team, we are striving to ensure that an increasing number of women hold leadership positions within the company.

Which legal tech organisations or products are helping you in your role?

Currently we are implementing “Dilitrust” as our legal software. This tool helps us to manage contracts and transactions on this first stage of implementation. The idea is to expand to corporate governance and litigations.
