How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises?
Periods of instability demand a legal function that is not only reactive but deeply strategic. At izzi telecom, Sky Mexico and within Grupo Televisa, we have faced significant market and regulatory challenges in an industry undergoing constant transformation.
My approach has been to ensure that the legal team acts as a proactive partner to the business, anticipating scenarios and aligning legal decisions with long-term corporate objectives. During moments of uncertainty, whether economic, regulatory, or reputational, our priority is to safeguard operational continuity, protect the company’s integrity, and maintain stakeholder confidence.
We do this through a multidisciplinary crisis-management framework that combines early risk identification, regulatory engagement, and close coordination with operational and communications teams. Legal strategy becomes part of the company’s resilience plan, enabling decisions that are not only compliant but also forward-looking and value-generating.
By embedding legal governance into our strategic planning, we contribute directly to the transformation of our company—ensuring that innovation and expansion occur within a robust, sustainable legal foundation.
What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
Over the past years, I have led several transformative transactions for Grupo Televisa, driving the company’s expansion and consolidation.
Among these, I participated in the award-winning US$4.8bn merger between Univision, the U.S. broadcasting network, and Grupo Televisa to create the world’s largest Spanish-language media company, backed by Google, Japan’s SoftBank, and U.S. investor The Raine Group.
In the past, I spearheaded the acquisitions of renowned companies such as Bestel, Nextel México, and Iusacell in the telecommunications market, as well as several key cable operators across Mexico, which after several years led to the creation of izzi Telecom — a leading company in the Mexican telecommunications industry.
One of the most significant recent milestones has been the acquisition of Sky México—a highly complex process involving multi-jurisdictional regulatory approvals, corporate restructuring, and the integration of assets across convergent service lines. This transaction represents a major step in strengthening Televisa’s leadership in pay television and broadband services throughout Mexico and Latin America. My team worked closely with business leaders to ensure a seamless process, aligning the legal structure with the company’s strategic vision.
I also successfully led the acquisition of the assets of Mirada, a Spain-based company that provides television platforms to various operators across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Beyond these transactions, I have overseen critical infrastructure and content agreements, implemented compliance and data privacy frameworks, and optimised the group’s corporate structure to enhance investment and operational efficiency. Each initiative has required balancing regulatory precision with business agility—ensuring that the legal function operates as a true strategic enabler of growth.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
Building a high-performing legal team starts with diversity of thought and background. Within izzi’s and Televisa’s legal department, we have made diversity and inclusion a core principle of our leadership culture.
We foster an environment where every team member could be heard and supported through concrete professional growth plans. We support the development of young lawyers by encouraging their involvement in decision-making and increasing their visibility. Our growth is driven by healthy competition and a commitment to equal advancement for all.
Our goal is not only to meet corporate targets but to foster an environment where different perspectives are valued, collaboration thrives, and innovation is encouraged. Diversity, for us, is not a metric—it is the foundation.
