Career Biography
With over 30 years of experience as legal advisor to multinational companies and renowned law firms, participates in both local and Latin America regional projects. Currently Denise supports the KPMG business units as a strategic business partner to design and implement different strategies providing legal advice on local labor, criminal, antitrust, commercial, privacy, intellectual property, crisis management, mergers and acquisitions among other areas of law. Collaborates with top management team to identify legal and regulatory issues, additionally collaborates in the identification and management of risk in the Mexico and Central America region and acts on crisis management situations. Collaborates with the Ethics and Independence team in the analysis of integrity cases to take preventive and corrective actions including dismissals and criminal legal actions.
Prior to joining KPMG, Denise collaborated in the legal departments of companies such as Nielsen, NielsenIQ, General Electric, Grupo CIE, Television Azteca and law firms as Basham Ringe y Correa.
Denise held a position as member of the Board of Directors (“Junta Menor”) of the Ilustre y Nacional Colegio de Abogados (“INCAM”) since 2019 until 2024, additionally Denise is the Founding Board Member of Bufete Jurídico Social and was the General Manager since 2021 until 2024. She is Founding Board Member of the Board of Directors of AbogadasMX who in 2018 co-lead the Study and Analysis on the inclusion of women in Leadership Positions with CIMAD and Marea Consulting in addition she is responsible of the designing and implementation of the Postgraduate Grant Program of AbogadasMX and of Cátedra AbogadasMX at the most prestigious universities in Mexico. During 2020 through 2022 was the Leader for Latin America of the affinity group Women in NielsenIQ “WIN” oriented in enabling the personal and professional development of women. Denise is also Board Member Centro Mexicano Pro Bono, dedicated to pro bono legal services.
In 2022, Denise was included in the GC Powerlist by the Legal 500 Mexico and 2018 Denise was recognised by The GC Power list as one of the in-house counsel who are driving the legal business forward which was published by The Legal 500 in collaboration with Legal Business, GC Magazine and The In-house Lawyer, publication where the most influential in-house lawyers in Mexico are highlighted. In 2014, Denise was named by The Corporate Counsel 100 Latin America, which is part of the Legal 500 Latin America Series, as one of the 100 in-house practitioners who have demonstrated to be the most influential and innovative practitioners across Latin America. On March 2019, Foro Jurídico Magazine included Denise as one of the “Most Influential Lawyers” in Mexico in its second publication of the month of the women. In 2021, Chambers and Partners nominated Denise as part of the short list of nominees for the award as In-house Lawyer of the Year, in the Category of Diversity and Inclusion. Denise was named in November 21 as G20 EMPOWER ADVOCATE (Empowerment and Progression of Women´s Economic Representation) by the Mexico Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Denise held the position of Honorary Counselor of the Consultative Council of the Instituto Nacional de Acceso a la Información (INAI) for the period 2017 – 2019. In 2016 she was named Juror of the first “Innovation and Best Practices Award”, organised by INAI.
Denise graduated in Law with honors from La Salle University in Mexico City. She has attended different post graduate programs such as Crisis Management and Business Continuity at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Management Program for Lawyers at Yale University and Negotiation for Lawyers at Harvard Law School and the Highly Specialized Course on Supranational Protection of Fundamental Rights at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Denise is certified to be part of Board of Directors of public and private companies by the Financial Times through its FT Non-Executive Director Diploma and by EGADE through it Women For Boards Diploma.
Denise is co-author of a privacy article in the IAPP Latin America Dashboard Digest and co-author of three books by Tirant lo Blanch on privacy, “Puebla la Otra Batalla, Protection of Private Life in Natural Disaster Situations and Contingency”, “The INAI, Relevant and Polemical Resolutions (12 leading cases)” and the “Dictionary on Fundamental Concepts on Protection of Personal Identifiable Information”, as well as author of “Women in Law in Latin America” for the GC Magazine, Legal 500. Denise has been invited as guest professor at Escuela Libre de Derecho, ITAM, Fordham University NYC and University of Miami.
