Career Biography
Darrell Chan serves as general counsel for Airbnb in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, leading a dynamic legal team that shapes and drives the company’s legal strategy across a diverse and complex market. As an integral member of the Leadership Team, Darrell partners closely with cross-functional executives to support Airbnb’s mission.
A strong advocate for corporate responsibility, Chan is an active member of Airbnb’s Business and Human Rights Committee. In this role, he works to integrate the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights into Airbnb’s global operations, striving to embed human rights considerations in the company’s decision-making and day-to-day activities.
Recognising the critical importance of innovation within the legal profession, Chan serves as executive sponsor of Airbnb’s Legal Technology Group. He is passionate about digital transformation and has been instrumental in driving the adoption of technology that enhances the legal department’s efficiency, agility, and ability to deliver strategic value to the business.
Prior to joining Airbnb, Chan held executive legal roles at two of the world’s leading technology-driven companies. As vice-president for Corporate Legal and Public Regulatory Affairs at Discovery Communications, Chan oversaw legal, public policy, and compliance matters with a global perspective. Before Discovery, he served as head of legal for Asia at Expedia, where he managed legal, public policy, and compliance for one of the region’s most innovative travel platforms.
Outside of work, Darrell enjoys spending time with his family, running, swimming, working out, and, of course, travelling.
