The Governor of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer González, during a news conference held in June, 2025, announced that ABB had decided to expand its manufacturing presence in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, with the successful award of a multimillion-dollar investment from the Government of Puerto Rico that will contribute to the creation of 90 specialised jobs.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
The Legal function helps the company maintain a continuous risk management analysis to be able to anticipate and ensure operational stability. The Legal function enhances the company’s core values of integrity with clear communications and trainings in all aspects of the company’s operations and is considered a valued business partner ready to provide legal solutions that pivot with business continuity plans.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
The Legal Function must be ready to adopt technology as well as provide vocal and honest communication about its risks and uncertainties. Legal is considered the visible steady leadership that will emphasise what steps are being taken to avoid any known pitfalls in the use of technology.
How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company? Can you share an example of a recent legal-led initiative that had a significant impact?
The legal team is known as the “go-to“ leader when business leaders seek help with answers to uphold the company’s core values such as integrity, compliance, fairness, accountability and responsibility. We are actively involved in core business functions such as sales, supply chain, digital alternatives, regulations and industry shifts. Our team learns from early signs and helps the company adjust accordingly. Legal has brought forth initiatives to demonstrate corporate responsibility such as the company’s Integrity Programs, as well as compliance strategies when entering new markets and when adopting new technology.
