Chief legal offiecer and business affairs | CIMARRON CINE (EL PERRO S.A.S) A COMPANY OF THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO
Team size: Six
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
The strength is in all the work done with the team during all this time the scaffolding, the delivery of clear instructions, knowing that no matter what happens there will be support from the legal manager to move forward.
Since 2023, we have been working on a process of modernizing work with external production teams by incorporating a contract and workflow automation tool called NETLEX. This has allowed autonomy in external teams since they work through this application and can generate and send electronic contracts in this way. That tool allows our teams to use the approved contract template, complete it, and submit it. If changes are required, they request it, and we adjust them from the legal department
The legal strategy is always aligned with the company’s and the business’ because as a legal manager. I am part of the management team and we work monthly on planning and objectives.
What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?
My team and I have been responsible for the legal part in Uruguay of great audiovisual productions such as LA SOCIEDAD DE LA NIEVE, MARGARITA, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN, BARRABRAVA, among others. We have been in daily contact with the legal teams of large clients such as AMAZON, NETFLIX, DISNEY, among others
What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?
In the production teams there is a person in charge of reviewing the sustainability of each audiovisual project and in CIMARRON CINE internally we work mostly electronically without generating unnecessary use of paper and we are within REDUCTO, an AUDIOVISUAL HUB where there are recycling bins. I as a general counsel promoted that all legal documents will be electronically.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
The legal department within CIMARRON CINE encourages, more than any other department, internships, paid and unpaid, that are carried out with students from both state and private universities. Besides that, people with some disabilities have joined the Production Company to work.
What do you see as the major legal challenges for businesses in Uruguay over the next five years, and how are you preparing to address them?
The main current challenge is the incorporation of artificial intelligence as a work tool and as a substitute for certain roles in companies. How to update yourself to this technological change without being left behind but complying with the applicable regulatory framework.
At CIMARRON CINE we are working on the analysis of the regulatory framework and understanding how to incorporate AI to facilitate the work process.
