What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

As General Counsel, I’ve led complex M&A transactions and investments, divestitures, and restructurings, across multiple sectors and jurisdictions. These deals have supported the group’s long-term growth strategy and portfolio diversification.

One of my most strategic current initiatives involves designing a streamlined legal structure to strengthen governance, ensure regulatory alignment, and support ESG goals. This platform also enables integrated management of high-value assets across Chile, including tourism, wineries, agriculture, livestock, conservation, and real estate, unlocking synergies and preparing the organisation for future developments and investments.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

When a crisis hits, my role as legal counsel demands rigor, composure, and strategic focus to guide the organisation effectively. It’s not just about sound legal judgment; it’s about acting with clarity, balance, and resolve under pressure.

A proactive and collaborative approach across the organisation has been key. This means developing legal strategies during stable periods, allowing for thoughtful and robust planning, and actively shaping the company’s operational risk matrix, mitigation protocols, and contingency plans. These efforts strengthen corporate governance and empower the Board to fulfill its fiduciary duties with confidence and foresight.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?

The growing urgency to strengthen compliance frameworks and embed a true culture of integrity across both public and private sectors is undeniable. Recent scandals have shown that legal compliance alone is insufficient. In-house lawyers are increasingly expected to go beyond rule enforcement to promote transparency, manage conflicts of interest, and foster ethical behavior as a core organisational value, not just as legal requirement. True integrity stems not from fear of sanctions, but from a shared ethical mindset that becomes part of the corporate DNA.

This commitment must also extend to the public sector, where inconsistent standards undermine trust and complicate business. As legal counsel, we should actively engage in shaping smart regulation and streamlining bureaucracy, advocating for reforms such as digital interoperability between agencies. Otherwise, we risk becoming mere gatekeepers of procedures that lack real impact. Our role should evolve toward being strategic enablers and cultural leaders within our organisations and in the broader regulatory ecosystem.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?

I’m deeply committed to generating positive impact through business decisions, mentorship, and community engagement. I believe success is not just measured by individual achievement, but by the value we create for others. As a legal professional, I advocate for impact-driven strategies that generate long-term value for stakeholders and society. I’ve worked with cross-functional teams to craft legally sound, collaborative solutions that reflect the broader social role of our profession, which I value deeply for its potential to drive meaningful change from within.

Beyond the legal sphere, I dedicate time to mentoring and volunteering with initiatives such as those promoted by Mujeres Empresarias, Women in Compliance, and USEC (jointly with Fundación Trabün). These efforts connect me with emerging professionals and students from different areas, as well as underserved communities, offering a space for mutual learning and growth. I’m driven by the conviction that while talent is universal, opportunity is not, and I see each conversation, deal, or dialogue as a chance to help close that gap and open new doors for others.

Looking forward, what trends do you foresee in the legal landscape over the next five to ten years that companies should prepare for?

The legal field will be reshaped by rapid technological advancement, especially AI, and the pressing need to rethink how we train and develop legal talent. As automation replaces many entry-level tasks, companies must invest in mentoring and strategic skill-building to ensure young lawyers still gain the judgment, experience, and ethical grounding they need. Embracing legal tech is essential but so is preparing teams to navigate a fast-paced, global business environment with nuance and adaptability.

At the same time, businesses, particularly small and mid-sized ones, face growing pressure to implement effective, proportionate compliance programs. The challenge is to design systems that manage legal and reputational risk without stifling innovation or overburdening operations. The future belongs to companies that view legal innovation as a catalyst for smarter, more scalable compliance cultures, aligned with business realities and enabling sustainable growth.
