Héctor Herrera has been vice president and legal counsel of MetLife Chile since November 2021.

He is responsible for all legal matters of both Chile Seguros and ProVida, either in court and out-of-court matters. In that role, Hector has led relevant contractual negotiations, as the BancoEstado and Falabella exclusive distribution agreements for insurance products. He is also responsible for regulatory and corporate matters, being Secretary of MetLife Chile Boards. He also oversights the MetLife operation in Ecuador. Since December 2024, Hector holds a double hat being MetLife Xcelerator Legal partner for Latam (Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay). MetLife Xcelerator is the line of business for distribution of embedded insurance through digital platforms. In this position, Hector negotiated an exclusive 3-years distribution contract with Mercado Libre (MELI) for Mexico, Brazil & Chile.

Previously, Herrera served as ProVida – AVP Legal Counsel when he joined MetLife, in March 2020. In that position, he led a settlement agreement with PWC Chile, after having obtained a $100m favorable ruling against the auditors for negligence. Before that, Herrera used to work at Carey -Chile’s largest law firm-, serving as MetLife’s outside counsel from 2014 to 2020, when he joined MetLife. As external counsel, he advised MetLife in the complex M&A process of merging ProVida with its parent company, MetLife Chile Acquisition Co., after obtaining several regulatory approvals. He also served as ProVida’s Board member in 2018.
