How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

Ensure close and smooth communications across relevant legal functions and members as well as various key stakeholders to gather necessary information. Provide timely guidance and take actions as efficiently and effectively as possible.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

As part of a tech company, our Legal team is continuously looking for an opportunity to improve efficiency and quality of our services and operations through digital transformation. Regarding the use of AI, given the sensitivity around AI, we are managing security and compliance of AI utilisation of entire company in close collaboration with IT team by creating dedicated guidelines, taskforce and COE, and also promoting Legal’s own AI utilization under that framework.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?

There are two key trends. Firstly, increasing fluidity caused by geopolitical tensions and changing trade policies such as export controls and tariffs, and secondly increasing regulatory fields and requirements such as privacy data and ESG related regulations. To effectively respond those trends, it is not sufficient for Legal to act within a “traditional” Legal realm; in-house lawyers need to proactively address new areas and more closely collaborate with internal/external stakeholders given their cross functional and operational nature, which requires a mindset shift to be much closer to business and operations.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?

As the general counsel, contributing to the company’s growth and success in as many as possible aspects is my absolute passion. In addition, having over 110 global members in the Legal division, to make Legal team a place where all members can work with joy and opportunities to grow and develop careers as professionals is another very important passion.
