How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In today’s volatile landscape, we’re evolving our approach to legal management during crises beyond internal resilience toward safeguarding stakeholder relationships across our ecosystem. Proactive risk assessment is becoming part of our strategy. Our legal team is increasingly collaborating with colleagues across functions to identify potential issues arising from shifting global conditions, developing frameworks to help our business navigate both predictable and unforeseen challenges.

We’re working on cultivating a culture of legal awareness throughout the organisation. As this initiative progresses, we’re establishing channels for early legal input and creating training programs to help teams better understand legal implications of business decisions. This developing shared understanding aims to strengthen our commercial position and decision-making process.

Additionally, we enhance our due diligence practices while reinforcing ethical standards. We’re implementing more robust monitoring systems for partners, improving how we track legal developments across jurisdictions, and working to uphold transparent decision-making frameworks, recognising the growing importance of ethical reputation.

Strategic contract management is an area of ongoing development. Legal is establishing stronger collaboration with commercial and operations teams to review agreements more effectively. We’re in the process of refining templates based on emerging lessons, creating frameworks that balance protection with necessary flexibility.

Our organisation’s increasing resilience stems from evolving cross-functional collaboration. Under clear leadership vision, legal contributes as one part of a greater whole—offering expertise while respecting every department’s role. Together, we’re building an organization increasingly capable of securing opportunities despite uncertainties, steadily reinforcing our reputation as a trusted operational hub even during challenging conditions.

How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?

Our organisation recognises that strong ESG performance is fundamental to long-term success. We’ve deliberately integrated ESG principles into our business strategy and established clear policies that reflect these commitments.

While leadership and key teams understand the importance of these values, we acknowledge that building a comprehensive ESG culture is an ongoing journey. Our legal and compliance teams work collaboratively across departments, helping colleagues understand how ESG considerations connect to their specific responsibilities.

Building a corporate culture is a continuous process. We’re currently developing various training programs that translate broad ESG concepts into job-specific applications, our ways of working, and new product development. These initiatives are designed to make ESG principles accessible and relevant rather than abstract compliance requirements.

As we strengthen our partner agreements to reflect our ESG values, we’re simultaneously developing internal communication channels that encourage dialogue about these principles. This dual approach ensures consistency between external commitments and internal practices.

Our focus remains on thoughtful implementation, creating genuine understanding and buy-in across all organisational levels rather than superficial compliance. This deliberate approach builds a foundation for lasting cultural change where ESG considerations become a natural part of decision-making at every level.
