What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past 12 months?

As part of Aramex’s strategic restructuring and expansion, I led two major corporate legal projects in certain countries in MENAT. I managed the restructuring of a subsidiary in a sanctioned country through overseeing nominee structures, POAs, tax filings, employment settlements, and legacy contract terminations. In Iraq, I managed the legal file with a strategic partnership via a holding entity, negotiated the Shareholders Agreement, and led entity formation. I’m currently managing Phase II, including branch setup, employment transition, and contractual restructuring. Both projects involved cross-border coordination, stakeholder alignment, and legal budget oversight, ensuring compliant and cost-effective execution.

I initiated two regional legal projects to enhance compliance across MENAT; a social security mapping project assessing legal and financial risks, and a governance alignment initiative reviewing and updating Articles of Association. Both projects involved jurisdiction-specific analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic legal reforms to strengthen regulatory adherence and corporate governance.

I led a MENAT construction arbitration case from 2021 to 2025, managing strategy, legal submissions, and coordination with external counsel and technical experts. I facilitated stakeholder workshops, translated findings into legal arguments, and advised management on legal and financial directions. In parallel, I spearheaded a global litigation app project with the IT team to digitalise case tracking and reporting. We launched the APP which aims to enhance transparency, optimise legal spend, and enable data-driven decisions across the network.

I worked on key compliance initiatives; a wide data protection project ensuring subsidiaries align with GDPR-like laws through legal guidance, training, and corrective actions. I also manage quarterly legal risk reporting, identifying and quantifying key risks across the region in collaboration with other teams ensuring timely updates to the risk profile and alignment with evolving regulatory and operational priorities.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

My legal strategy integrates proactive risk assessment, early intervention, and compliance mapping by ensuring resilience, operational continuity, and governance alignment across MENAT through agile decision-making and forward-looking legal frameworks.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

Aramex drives legal digital transformation through compliance integration, data protection alignment, litigation app development, cross-functional collaboration, and governance support. For example, on GDPR-localisation project, we conducted Data Protection Impact Assessments and enhanced Records of Processing Activities (ROPA), ensuring proper data handling and appointing Data Protection Officers as required by local laws.

What measures has your company taken to incorporate sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how can general counsel contribute to driving such initiatives within the organisation?

Aramex embeds sustainability into its core strategy, supporting youth initiatives, global forums, and green culture. I ensure legal clarity in sustainability programs, review policies, and advise on governance to align with international standards.
