How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
During periods of instability or crisis, our legal strategy is anchored in a fundamental priority: ensuring uninterrupted access to our products, given their direct impact on patient health and safety. Every legal recommendation is made in close alignment with business priorities and with a deep understanding of our clients’ needs. We begin by conducting a comprehensive risk assessment — identifying legal exposures, operational vulnerabilities, and regulatory constraints. Based on this analysis, we define targeted actions to mitigate risks, prevent critical disruptions, and capitalise on emerging opportunities. This proactive and integrated approach ensures that legal safeguards not only protect the organisation, but also strengthen its resilience and ability to fulfill its mission.
Providing timely and effective legal counsel that enables risk mitigation — while accounting for the specific regulatory and commercial nuances of each market — is essential to our support for business partners. At the same time, we ensure strategic alignment across the Latin America region, maintaining consistency in legal standards and business objectives.
What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
The redefinition of our go-to-market strategy in Mexico, prompted by the ongoing changes in the government procurement process since 2018. This transformation required a legal strategy that balances regulatory adaptability with the protection of the company’s key assets and interests. From the legal side, we’ve spearheaded initiatives to ensure operational continuity of the Latin America subsidiaries in the face of a global situation that has menaced the pharma business, as it has been traditionally in the last decades.
These efforts reflect a legal strategy that not only responds to external challenges but anticipates them — always aligned with business objectives and focused on strengthening organisational resilience.
Which legal tech organisations or products are helping you in your role?
We approach AI not as a one-size-fits-all solution, but as a strategic enabler that enhances our legal operations. Its role is to accelerate response times, uncover emerging trends, and simplify the delivery of legal services. This approach allows us to stay agile, informed, and aligned with the organization’s broader digital transformation goals.
