What are the most significant cases, projects or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?
Societe Generale is a top tier European bank supporting clients in more than 62 countries around the world. Our longstanding relationship of trust with clients, our cutting-edge expertise, our unique ability to innovate, our ESG capabilities and our leading franchises are part of our DNA. Last year we have played important part of landmark solar project and contributed Japanese government’s ambition of generating 36-38% of its electricity from renewables by 2030, on the way to reaching net zero emissions by 2025. In one of the major deals our legal team assisted ¥10.9bn non-recourse financing funds that Societe Generale acted as sole mandated lead arranger, hedging bank and letter of credit issuer of the deal.
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Our mission is to manage the risk effectively via a robust organisation and a risk culture that covers all the activities and markets in which Societe Generale operate. As a control department, we are responsible for putting in place control, monitoring systems and establishing framework for managing various types of risk. We establish solid risk reporting system and culture to be aware of potential risk at every level of our business.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
Before working at investment bank, I had been in the private practice as a corporate and litigation lawyer for seven ears. That experience gave me stronger technical skill of legal risk and dispute management.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
Successful digitisation is one of the key challenges in legal team as well. We started using our internal chat GPT incorporating artificial intelligence which have made significant contribution to draft documents and search the knowledge. Efficient use of new technologies is getting more important for our daily legal works.
