Spotlight On… My Career
I am a results driven executive with over 23 years of experience in corporate governance, legal advisory, and strategic leadership across diverse sectors. I currently serve as the Company Secretary and Head of Legal at Uganda Airlines, where I play a pivotal role in driving organisational transformation, governance reform, and operational excellence.
With a strong record of shaping governance frameworks, overseeing multi-million-dollar transactions, and fostering strategic partnerships, Susan brings deep expertise in board effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. My work in the aviation sector over the past two and a half years has positioned her as a dynamic leader committed to ethical governance, sustainable growth, and national development.
Notable projects I have handled are rendering legal advisory for the technical advisory for the additional fleet acquisition, lobbying all the stakeholders for the recapitalization of the airline, launching new routes, forming strategic partnerships, and ensuring operational cost reductions as the airline strives to reach a break even point.
I am currently spearheading negotiations for the acquisition of ten new aircraft from Boeing and Airbus. This multi-million-dollar landmark infrastructure transaction represents a transformative milestone for both the Airline’s growth strategy and the Country’s aviation sector.
Prior to my role at Uganda Airlines, I served as the Manager of Board Affairs and Advisory Services at Uganda National Oil Company Limited (UNOC). In this capacity, I managed all Board and Shareholder matters, provided corporate governance advisory services, and oversaw legal compliance for UNOC and its subsidiaries, the National Pipeline Company and the Uganda Refinery Holding Company. I was pivotal in ensuring that all requisite Shareholder and Board approvals were secured during the negotiations for the key commercial agreements, including those related to the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, the development of the Refinery, and oil exploration projects at the Kingfisher and Tilenga blocks.
Before I transitioned to in-house corporate law, I was the Managing Partner at Impala Legal Advocates and Consultants for ten years, leading a team of 15 lawyers and three partners. I provided strategic legal counsel on various infrastructure development project and played a key role in corporate transactions. Earlier in my career, I worked as a legal associate at Kasirye, Byaruhanga & Co. Advocates for six years, further honing my expertise in corporate and commercial law.
