What country you are based in? Kenya

Working on the IFC investment funding for Pearl Dairy Farms Limited, securing approximately $35 million for our expansion program in Uganda and Kenya. This project is particularly significant as it aims to enhance dairy productivity and improve access to the raw milk market for smallholder farmers in Uganda.

The impact of this funding will not only boost our capacity for producing powdered milk but also facilitate the acquisition of a dairy plant in Kenya therefore contributing to food security by increasing the volume of dairy products. Additionally, the initiative will strengthen the resilience of the dairy sector in both countries by building capacity within the supply chain, enabling it to withstand macroeconomic shocks, such as droughts. This experience has been incredibly fulfilling, knowing that our efforts will have a lasting impact on the agricultural landscape and food security in the region.

How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company?

We do this by ensuring that all initiatives comply with applicable laws and regulations. We provide proactive legal advice during the decision-making process, helping to identify potential risks and opportunities that align with our strategic goals. By doing so, we not only safeguard the company’s interests but also facilitate innovative approaches to market challenges.

How are you bringing the legal department closer to your business colleagues?

I have implemented regular cross-functional meetings where legal and business teams can discuss ongoing projects, share insights, and address potential legal implications early on. Additionally, we provide tailored training sessions to educate our colleagues about relevant legal issues, empowering them to make informed decisions.
