Mr Tan joined Sony (China) Limited (‘Sony China’) as Vice President and General Counsel in 2013. He has been a member of the Sony Group Compliance Leadership Team since 2019. Sony China promoted Mr Tan to Senior Vice President and General Counsel with effect from 1 January 2025.

Sony Group has established more than ten affiliated legal entities in China, employing approximately 18,000 staff across a diverse range of businesses, including consumer electronics, semiconductor solutions, interactive entertainment (PlayStation®), and animation arts. Mr Tan leads, manages, and develops a team of over 40 professionals located in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong. He and his team provide Sony group companies in China with professional services and support relating to legal, compliance, privacy, information security, trade affairs, and intellectual property.

Mr Tan was named by Asian Legal Business (ALB, a Thomson Reuters company) as one of ALB China’s Top 15 GCs in 2017 and 2018, was recognised by Legal 500 in the GC Powerlist: China 2019 and 2024, and more recently was presented with In-House Counsel Awards 2025 by China Business Law Journal/Law.Asia as Winner in both Electrical & Electronics, and Video Game & e-Sports.

The team under Mr Tan’s leadership received Sony China Special Recognition Awards and Special Appreciation Awards for ten consecutive years, in recognition of his and his team’s remarkable efforts and outstanding contributions in enabling Sony’s continued success and sustainable growth in China within an evolving legal and regulatory landscape of complexity and uncertainty. Notably, Sony Group Headquarters presented Mr Tan’s team with the Award of Excellence, as part of the FY2021 Sony Group Sustainability Award.

Mr Tan received his legal education and professional training in China, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Prior to joining Sony, he served as General Counsel, Greater China, and/or Regional Compliance Officer, Asia Pacific, for multinational companies headquartered in the United States and Germany.
