What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?
Over the past year, I have led several cross-border M&A transactions with deal values reaching the tens of millions of US dollars. These matters typically involve complex transaction structures, export-control considerations, intellectual property issues, and tax optimisation requirements.
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
My approach focuses on prevention, timely intervention and strategic resolution.
I prioritise building a robust pre-crisis framework, including a comprehensive compliance review policy, a structured contract review process, a data privacy protection system and clear rules for the use and management of company seals.
In daily operations, I ensure that legal advice and risk alerts are provided promptly. When disputes arise, I work to resolve them strategically, balancing legal, commercial and reputational factors to safeguard the organisation’s long-term resilience.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
Rapid technological developments and increasing globalisation are reshaping expectations for in-house legal teams. I believe that adopting new technological tools—such as AI—and strengthening the understanding of international rules, including cross-border compliance, will become increasingly important. At the same time, data protection and national security reviews in cross-border investment will remain key areas to watch.
AI has been taken seriously as a potentially revolutionary technological change in the legal world for a number of years now. Has it had a meaningful impact in how your legal team works in this time?
Yes, AI has indeed had a significant impact on our legal team’s work. It has improved efficiency and accuracy in many aspects. For example, we usually use AI to draft simple contracts, and AI can offer certain reference ideas when we encounter complex legal issues.
Looking forward, what trends do you foresee in the legal landscape over the next 5–10 years that companies should prepare for?
Over the next 5-10 years, the legal landscape is expected to undergo significant changes in terms of technology application, service model, professional field, and globalisation.
