What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

After the acquisition of Frontier Car Group, we re-shaped the company from a classic classified horizontal to mainly vertical leader (OLX Autos). That required a large amount of deep changes, going from being 100% an internet intermediary to a direct party in the transactions. From 7 USD average transaction to thousands of dollars. Adding dotted line reports/teams like AML, collections and documentation. Building teams in new countries such as Chile and México. From one single office per country to several offices, parking lots, inspection centers, etc.

Beyond buying and selling cars, we started working on a heavily regulated business line “Financing”. Currently, after a year of hard work, we are financing thousands of car buyers along Latam. Cross functional collaboration of legal teams between autos and financial management teams, in each country, is playing a key role in success. In such regard I can share that several team members grew and are growing with the business.

What will be the main focus for the company in the next 12 months and how do you intend to assist with this?

We need to focus on the most important opportunities in order to reach, in every sense, a sustainable business. Beyond reaching carbon neutrality, installing solar panels and attending trainings, among other great initiatives we already executed, the Legal and Compliance team is forging a sustainable and diverse culture along the region. It’s unlikely to find a country without one lawyer from the team, at least, in Sustainability and Diversity Committees. The commitment (and enthusiasm) in these areas is impressive and the results are evident.

How much influence do you, as a general counsel, have on the diversity and inclusions policies of your organisation?

The team must ensure all business leaders have the best options to do the right thing, without exceptions. That means we need to work smartly in order to help them reach business goals in a sustainable way and without unnecessary issues. We play a key role and are directly responsible for the results.
