What are the most significant cases, projects or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

Our legal team has supported several strategic initiatives across AES Dominicana’s energy portfolio. Our work has included advising on corporate governance matters and transactions supporting the company’s growth and energy transition objectives. Among the most significant matters I have worked on recently, I would highlight the international bond issuance, the largest by a Dominican company since 2012, a highly strategic transaction that required cross-functional coordination to support its successful execution.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

During periods of uncertainty, I focus on proactive risk assessment, clear communication and close collaboration with leaders. The legal function must provide practical and timely guidance while maintaining compliance and protecting the company’s interests.

General Counsel often speak of the need to be strategic to reach the pinnacle of the profession. What does being strategic mean to you?

Being strategic means understanding the business beyond the legal issues and aligning legal advice with the organisation’s objectives.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In my experience, modern in-house counsel must combine strong legal expertise with business acumen, adaptability and emotional intelligence. The ability to communicate complex issues clearly, build relationships across the organisation, and maintain integrity and sound judgement under pressure is critical.
