Team size: 70

What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

Over the past year, I have led TelevisaUnivision through some of its most consequential legal and strategic initiatives. I oversaw high-stakes content, sports-rights, and distribution negotiations that directly shaped the growth trajectory of ViX across the U.S. and Latin America.

I steered the modernisation of our regulatory and compliance frameworks, elevating our AML, advertising and governance standards across multiple jurisdictions and strengthening our risk posture as a global media company.

I also redesigned our litigation and outside-counsel strategy, enhancing efficiency, reducing exposure, and building stronger internal capabilities. In parallel, I led corporate restructurings and major commercial agreements that aligned legal strategy with the company’s long-term vision.

Across all of these efforts, my focus has been delivering clarity in complexity, driving transformation, and positioning the legal function as a catalyst for business impact.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In moments of instability, I lead with calm, precision, and strategic foresight. My approach centers on transforming ambiguity into clarity: rapidly assessing risk, defining decision pathways, and ensuring the organization can act with confidence. I cultivate tight cross-functional alignment, so legal guidance becomes an enabler—not a constraint—during high-pressure moments. And I consistently turn crises into opportunities to strengthen governance, reinforce controls, and build long-term resilience. My goal is simple: to provide the steady leadership needed for TelevisaUnivision to navigate uncertainty while safeguarding its people, reputation, and strategic momentum.

Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?

One defining experience has been helping guide a company as large and complex as TelevisaUnivision through a period of intense transformation—integrating legacy structures, launching a global streaming platform, and reimagining governance practices across multiple jurisdictions.

Leading teams through this evolution, with all its cultural, regulatory, and operational layers, has been one of the most challenging and rewarding chapters of my career.

AI has been taken seriously as a potentially revolutionary technological change in the legal world for a number of years now. Has it had a meaningful impact in how your legal team works in this time?

Yes—AI has shifted from experimentation to practical adoption. We now use AI-driven tools to accelerate contract review, improve compliance monitoring, and enhance litigation analytics. The impact is not about replacing legal judgment, but about freeing our lawyers to focus on strategy, creativity, and higher-value analysis. I also place strong emphasis on governance to ensure responsible, transparent use of AI across the department.

What factors influence your team’s decision to use external legal services versus handling matters in-house, and what criteria are used to evaluate their performance?

We turn to external counsel when the matter demands specialised expertise, cross-border coordination, or significant litigation resources.

Our evaluation criteria are straightforward:

technical excellence

strategic insight

efficiency and value

ability to collaborate seamlessly with our internal team

We prioritise firms that understand our business and operate as true partners.

How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company? Can you share an example of a recent legal-led initiative that had a significant impact?

My team plays a central role in shaping TelevisaUnivision’s strategic direction.
A recent example is our work in negotiating key content and distribution partnerships that accelerated ViX’s expansion across the region. Legal drove not only contractual structuring but also the risk modelling, compliance frameworks, and governance mechanisms that made these deals scalable and sustainable.
