How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
During the periods of instability we face, it is important for me to stay up to date, not only in the obvious, which are the laws, regulations and normativity, but also in what is known in expert forums and news. In the same way, it is important to maintain constant and open communication with my team to be aligned and to be able to know their concerns.
Respect to the alignment of both legal and broader business strategies, it is also important to generate a communication channel with Operational Directors and Senior positions of the other areas in the company, to not only be aligned with what the legislation dictates, but also with the internal policies of the company to ensure correct compliance. As well as, if necessary, update our processes and policies to the changes that arise in the country, they always seek stability in our company.
What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
Mexico recently faced an update to the Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data in Possession of Private Parties, legislation that we are obligated to comply with as a company, this update led to uncertainty in privacy matters in the country, however, we have adhered to the high standards of Personal Data Protection, always ensuring that the owners are duly protected when we act as Controller and/or Processors, so we continue with awareness within the company to protect personal data with this standards.
What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?
Our company is steadfast in its commitment to sustainability, integrating it into our core operations through strategic initiatives led by our dedicated sustainability team. The general counsel plays a pivotal role in this process by ensuring that all sustainability programs comply with local legislation and regulatory requirements. By collaborating closely with the sustainability team, the general counsel helps develop robust criteria and measures that align with both our sustainability objectives and legal obligations. This partnership ensures that our company not only meets its sustainability goals but also upholds its commitment to ethical and responsible business practices.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
In our personal data protection team, fostering diversity and inclusion is a key priority. Recognizing the challenge of finding male professionals specializing in this field, we work closely with our human resources team to ensure a diverse candidate pool for all positions. We actively seek to build a team that embodies a wide range of perspectives and experiences, promoting an inclusive culture where every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute. This approach not only enriches our work environment but also enhances our ability to innovate and address complex challenges effectively.
