How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
It is important to note that although the term “Legal Consultant” is frequently used in the market, here at Minerva Foods we have chosen to adopt a broader and more strategic approach: we act as business partners. This means that, rather than offering technical answers or limiting ourselves to pointing out risks, we seek to understand the Company’s objectives and actively contribute to jointly enabling legally secure solutions aligned with corporate goals. In a broader sense, our work reflects the essence of our company’s purpose “Creating connections between people, food and nature”
Regarding its Sustainability commitments, Minerva Foods uses the best available technology to ensure environmental and land compliance of its supplier portfolio. Through geospatial monitoring and analysis of official public documents and lists, when available, the Company seeks to ensure that its products are not associated with illegally deforested areas, environmental embargoes, overlap with protected areas, indigenous lands, traditional communities or conservation units, nor the use of labor analogous to slavery. This guideline is formalized in the Agricultural Commodities and Livestock Products Acquisition Policy, aligned with the socio-environmental legislation in force in the countries where Minerva Foods operates and sector initiatives such as the Public Livestock Commitment (CPP), the Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) of the State of Pará and Monitoring Protocols in the Amazon biomes (Boi na Linha Protocol) and Cerrado (which we follow and implement all the criteria in full of both protocols).
In this context, the role of the Legal Department, as a business partner, is essential, both in analyzing compliance with environmental and regulatory legislation and in drafting contracts that include sustainability and ESG clauses. The Legal Department plays a substantial role in mitigating socio-environmental risks and supporting governance, helping to ensure that the commitments assumed in ESG policies and reports are effectively implemented and that the Company’s practices are always aligned with these principles.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
Generative artificial intelligence, contract automation systems such as CLM (Contract Lifecycle Management), and legal analytics platforms are some of the technologies that we believe will have a major impact on legal practice in the not-so-distant future.
To maintain knowledge, it is essential to stay up to date by participating in courses, webinars and conferences, as well as following specialized publications, trend reports, and being in contact with legal techs and professionals in the field. It is also necessary to encourage a culture of innovation within the legal team, promoting the experimentation of new tools, a space of trust and openness, and encouraging continuous development.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
At Minerva Foods, we believe that inclusion and diversity of people and ideas is a commitment to human dignity and to building a more just and egalitarian society. Our goal goes beyond fulfilling legal obligations, as we want to strengthen our Sustainability value, in which we respect diversity and promote inclusion without discrimination of any kind.
One of our initiatives is the hiring and selection process, guided by the labor legislation in force in each country where we operate. In addition, through rigorous internal procedures and standards, we guarantee equal opportunities, without making distinctions based on gender, age, race or any other aspect. In this context, the Company reinforces its commitment to diversity and inclusion, promoting a work environment that celebrates the richness of differences and respects the individuality of each employee.
Another initiative that the Company develops is the Inclusion of People with Disabilities program, whose main objective is to train and prepare participants for the job market, providing equal opportunities and promoting diversity in our workforce.
