How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

  

In a difficult period, the General Counsel needs to understand the business at both the strategic and operational levels and, with a proactive approach, anticipate key risks before they occur and take action. We work closely with other departments to ensure that all measures taken are legally sound and aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. This includes providing legal guidance on crisis response plans, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing any legal disputes that may arise. By integrating legal considerations into the overall crisis management strategy, we help maintain business continuity and protect the company’s reputation

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

Generali Brasil Seguros has taken significant steps to incorporate sustainability practices into its operations, and as General Counsel, my role includes ensuring that all sustainability initiatives comply with legal and regulatory standards. This involves advising on environmental regulations, overseeing the integration of sustainability criteria into our business contracts, and ensuring transparency in our sustainability reporting. By aligning our legal framework with our sustainability goals, we support the company’s long-term success and its commitment to responsible business practices.

  

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

   

Setting clear hiring goals is essential. Among the finalists for any position (usually three), there is always a woman and another candidate from a minority group. When assessing candidates, I try to identify the profile that is not yet represented in the team, which does not always mean selecting the most qualified candidate. Technical skills can be developed, while the diverse personal characteristics of the team are preserved. Another important point is to ensure that all opinions are heard and taken into account in order to achieve the common goal.
