What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

One of the most important operations recently carried out was the incorporation of the wholly-owned subsidiary Furnas by the holding company Eletrobras, a process that involved several areas of the legal department, such as tax, corporate, regulatory, labour, and litigation, considering that there was also a legal challenge to the transaction, with the granting of injunctions to suspend it but which, based on a swift and energetic action, were revoked in a very short period of time.

In addition, the legal department was a key player in Eletrobras’ successful participation in the transmission auctions held by the federal government in 2024, which bring great value to the company. Participation in these transmission auctions requires careful preparation, including negotiation of contracts and pre-contracts with future suppliers, as well as careful assessments after the auction, to close contracts and monitor works.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

The use of artificial intelligence is certainly here to stay, revolutionising legal professions and careers. Having started my legal career in the pre-internet era, when case law research was conducted in court libraries and legal doctrine research involved climbing ladders to reach the highest shelves and leafing through heavy books with over 500 pages, I cannot help but notice the revolution that AI-assisted research represents. AI not only searches books and court decisions for passages related to the topic under research in a fraction of a second but also performs complex analyses and summaries that can make lawyers’ lives much easier.

However, it is important to understand AI as a tool at the service of the profession, and not as a substitute for lawyers. Its use should be to ensure greater efficiency, but the ultimate responsibility for the work remains with the lawyer, since law is not an exact science, and this final critical view is always necessary.
