Alaskan native Jaeleen Araujo has been advising Sealaska for a number of years in a number of different capacities. She used to advise the corporation, which has some 20,000 tribal member shareholders, as outside counsel from Washington DC, working with Congress and the US Forest Service to help fulfill the company’s native land entitlement under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. In 2008, she moved in-house and continued to make progress on land legislation while also handling the full range of legal obligations an organization of its size faces. Her work is very focused on advancing Native issues, protecting the company, and the interests of its shareholders.
